LIVING IN THE MIDEAST-Part 3
By John Sprague
IRAQ and
KUWAIT
have been my home away from home for nearly four years. While in this part of the world, I have been privileged to make acquaintances with many different people from various countries near and far. Ive worked closely with soldiers and marines, seebees and contractors alike. Ive learned to have a much keener understanding of the situation on the ground here and therefore probably a better perspective of life in the mideast. On the pages of this website, I will attempt to help you understand the situation here better while portraying a clearer picture. Ive been stationed in both of these countries and have traveled from the Border of Saudi Arabia to the Border of Turkey and lots of area in between.. That is a great distance during war time, to put it mildly. Ive made my travel in helicopters, huge transport planes, air charters, commercial planes, rhino buses and regular buses. Ive driven in and out of
Iraq
in suv vehicles, armored and unarmored, too but always in a military convoy. In
Kuwait,
I drove freely the entire expanse of that country. I have worked at several different jobs for the same
US based
company. The types of jobs varied from materials management to security and logistics. Some of these tasks involved more physical activity while others may have consisted of riding in a vehicle or sitting at a desk. I also learned to operate fork-lifts as well as bobcats. Ive ridden john deere gators on the desert, too. But now I am looking forward to returning back to the good ole
USA
. That of course will be early in the new year. The Global Domain websites shall be one of my future supplemental incomes and it might be something youd be interested in getting involved with now. It can be as easy as clicking on one of the links on this very page. You can try out the program free for an entire week and then see what you think about it. It might be just what you're looking for.
Thanks for stopping by. Presentation: http://freedom.ws/yankee12gen/

This outcome includes these two basic ingredients:Your spoken word and Hard work.
The Power of your words:
People dont always recognize that they can release such influence in the world by their mere words. These words can be positive words of faith, victorious words, words that uplift and those that encourage. They can be words of fear which are either words of pessimism, words of discord and deception. Now, consider these words of wisdom from The Book of Proverbs:
12:14 People will be rewarded for what they say, and they will also be rewarded for what they do. 13:2 People will be rewarded for what they say, but those who cant be trusted want only violence. 13:3 Those who are careful of what they say, protect their lives but whoever speaks without thinking, will be ruined. Though these principles are not new, not all are aware of them. Although they may not be found in great business books, they are equally powerful and apply to us still today.
The Old School of Hard Work:
You read it correctly,HARD WORK. This does not mean working stupidly as others may think, but working smartly. Working hard may not be confined to manual labor. It also involves mind and heart work.
When one reaches for his goal or goals, before anything else, a plan and strategy is a must. This process may involve systemic and linear thinking. This is generally a Mind Work.
Likewise, one will not embark on a project, investing his resources and energy,if the project is not his passion. Passion involves a lot of Heart Work.
Most employees are allergic to hard work but never the entrepreneur. It is their life, money, resources and passion that is on the line. Take time to read the mantras of successful entrepreneurs. They do not work for 8 hours, they are on call 24/7. Their business is their life. Sometimes the people working for them just do not get it.If you are one of those who wishes to be successful and possibly wealthy one day, whether as an entrepreneur or working for someone else, please do not delete HARD WORK from your vocabulary.
More Proberbs:
13:4 The lazy will not get what they want, but those who work hard will.
12:27 The lazy catch no food to cook, but the hard worker will have great wealth. 12:24 Hard workers will become leaders, but those who are lazy will be slaves.

In this classic story from the Old Testament of the Bible, the people of the Earth were building a colossal staged temple-tower or multi-storeyed ziggurat - that would reach heaven. But did they really believe they could reach their Gods? Most likely the tower would be used as a place of worship.
Actually, the purpose of the tower was to provide a common religious center as a rallying point, lest the people be scattered. The builders of the tower were in open defiance of God's command (Genesis 9:1) (53).
In the ninth chapter of Genesis, God commands Noah and his sons to "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth" (9:1 NAS). On the fifth day of the creation of the Earth, God gave this command to the birds and fishes (Gen. 1:20-23). On the sixth day, God reiterated this command to the pinnacles of creation, man and woman (Gen. 1:26-28). Humanity was to subjugate the untamed Earth by dispersing themselves.
All of the people alive at the time of Babel were descended solely from the three sons of Noah. Consequently, Shem, Ham and Japheth are the fathers of modern civilization. Genesis 9:8-17 affirms that the rainbow serves as a personal reminder to God of His covenant.
Accordingly, God separated the people to different lands and languages to frustrate their self-destructive plans. Determined to stay faithful to His covenant, this was God's only merciful alternative in response to the tower. If the people were punished, it was a light affliction administered. The reproof was quite mild compared to the prior worldwide flood (Gen. 7:21-23). Similarly, the rebuke of God at Babel hardly parallels the subsequent fiery obliteration of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 19:24-30).
The prophecy of the Book of Jonah records God's solemn warning to the city to repent of its evil ways. God sent the reluctant prophet Jonah to deliver the admonition. Nineveh immediately repented. However, the prophecy of the Book of Nahum declares that God's judgment would fall on the subsequently backsliding and unrepentant Nineveh and that they would be pillaged by the Babylonians, Scythians and the Medes.
The Tower of Babel is extremely significant to the epic of the Bible. The story is much more than God indiscriminately interrupting an insignificant building project. The Tower of Babel marks the origins of the nations of the Earth.
Iraq and Mesopotamia are filled with history. It will be wonderful when it becomes a safe place to visit the historical beginnings of mankind and walk amongst these treasures in a peaceful environment.

By John Sprague. Kuwait is a pretty safe place when compared to Iraq. Kuwait has an excellent police force that aggressively goes after troublemakers before they get a chance to do anything. While I was in Kuwait, I had heard of a number of shootouts. The police go into a place when they hear that something is going on and then they roadblock off the neighborhood, they get the bad guys and then there are no problems for the rest of society. I guess it helps the security when you can speak Arabic and have regular police checks on the highway. The Kuwaitis also have a good military presence and watch their borders closely. The first time that I went up north and into Iraq, I drove there myself. As a member of our Corporate Security, I had the use of a Suburban SUV that could travel pretty fast. First, I would drive up to Navistar located at Abdali,Kuwait and which is on the border of Iraq. There, I would get placement in a US Military Convoy. Thinking back at the time, I had no physical armor on that car whatsoever and carried no weapon for protection.Remember, I was part of The Security department. Things were hot and heavy in Iraq in 2004. My employer doesn't allow even Security personnel to carry a gun. All I had then was a steel vest and a helmet on my head. Anyway, I didn't know what to expect. This was four years ago when all sorts of things were happening to some of the convoys. This was about the time some employees from my company were hung on a bridge up there. Now, convoys are a whole lot safer and all vehicles have to be steel plated or "hard cars" or they don't go into enemy territory. After waiting 2-3 hours, the convoy of 35-40 cars, trucks and military escorts headed out from Navistar. After we had crossed the border, I was amazed at the sheer poverty of the people along the way. The families there would be living in foundations of buildings, shacks and tiny buildings. The children seemed to be friendly and always waving and smiling at our long caravan of vehicles as we passed along the way. I was also taken aback by the sight of old farms that were once productive and now were all dried up. I had heard that during Saddam's rule, the water was diverted for some unknown reason. It didn't seem to me that the area had been self sustaining for a number of years. This went on like that for a hundred miles or so. I finally reached my destination at a place called Cedar near the southern city of Nasariyah. This is still pretty far south in Iraq. It was fairly safe while I was there. The biggest problem in that place was the danger from Leishmaniasis. This was a disease you could get from parasitic sand flies. In nearby Talil, just outside the military gate, I was privileged to see the birthplace of Abraham which was near the ziggurat of Ur. Iraq was formerly called Mesopotamia and was said to have been the site of the Garden of Eden. There sure is a great deal of history in Iraq which I will talk about in my future blogs and writings.
John is a resident of Bellingham,MA and is currently working in the mideast area.

NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT TIME
By John Sprague
For any of you who fail at anything in life, mostly it will occur when we are merely waiting for that perfect moment to proceed. You might be anxiously waiting for your ducks to line up in a perfect row before you decide to get going. The reality is there is no perfect time to proceed and waiting for that perfect time will only lead to missed opportunities.
Action: "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed...every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle...when the sun comes up, you'd better be running." --Anonymous When there is no action, there will be no result. When there is no purpose, there will be no success.Sure, there may be pitfalls and complications but you have to keep trying. Keep going forward,no matter what. The best way for all of us to learn how to swim, is to get into the pool. Dive right in. We are all going to make a mistake or two but don't be discouraged when this happens. As long as you are able to learn from your mistakes and move forward, you will always be moving closer to your goal. If you wait untill you are perfectly ready, you will be waiting nearly forever because the perfect time is just an impossibility. Whether you are ready or not, experienced or inexperienced, you have to make the necessary commitment to take some action no matter how ready you think you are. Now is the time to begin to seek out your goal. Get ready to be the success you deserve to be. Best of luck to you. -John

THE POWER OF FOCUS
By Jason Osborn and Rebecca Osborn In today’s world we seem to be forced to rush around in everything we do. It doesn’t matter if you are a business owner, employee, or a full time college student. The morning starts off with your feet hitting the floor running. Rush, rush, rush. Why is it that the things in life that you really want to get done always seem to be the things that you never get close to? This one word,Focus,if acted upon correctly, could change your life dramatically. You go to a small café and order a nice sandwich. You sit down at your table with your lunch and the book, which you have been looking forward to reading all day. You have only read half a page when all of a sudden a very noisy group of people come into the café, which makes it very difficult for you to concentrate on your book. You are on the next page when your mobile phone rings. It’s one of your friends that you are supposed to be getting together with later that night. You chat to them for about 5 minutes. Then you find where you left off reading when the waitress comes over and starts clearing off your table, which distracts you once again. Before you know it it’s time to start heading back to work and you have only read a page and a half! So how do you use the power of focus to get things done properly? 1. Select a specific time frame and a length of time. Set the time that works best for you. This may be in the morning, lunchtime, or once all of your family has gone to sleep. Also pick a length of time. Thirty minutes, forty-five minutes, or an hour, whatever works best for you. By setting a specific time frame and a length of time, you make sure that this time is free from all distractions and that you don’t cut into a time when you need to be doing something else. 2. Select a place. Make sure that the place you select is conducive to what you want to do. If you need a quiet place, don’t go somewhere that has the potential of getting noisy. If you want to network, go someplace where you will be in contact with the right people. It is very easy to lose focus of what you are doing if you are not in the right setting. 3. Select a purpose. If you don’t have a purpose you will never get anything done. Select one or two things as your purpose. Remember, it’s all about focus. Don’t try to cram everything in all at once. 4. DON’T GET DISTRACTED This is the most important point. Don’t set up a time that will prevent you from focusing. Don’t choose a location that will prevent you from focusing. Don’t try to do too many things at once, which will cause you to lose your focus. If your phone rings, let it go to voice mail. As long people know you will call them back, most of them will not mind leaving you a message. Turn off your T.V. Unless your purpose requires you to watch something, the T.V. will only distract you. Make it known that you are not to be disturbed during this time. Children, co-workers, and family can be some of the biggest distractions. Don’t let them ruin your focus. As you begin to implement the power of focus, you will start to see yourself accomplishing more. Just imagine what one hour a day of focused self-improvement will do for you in a year’s time. How many novels could you read in a year? How much quality time with your kids will this allow you to have? How many more sales calls could you make? The power of focus can change your life.
